Myth Among Many New Authors

"The Publisher Sells My Book"

This is a common myth throughout the world of publishing, traditional or independent. Publishers broker, or produce, the printing and manufacturing of a book. The publisher then makes it available to the public, usually through wholesale distributors. That is what the publisher does. The next piece falls into the author’s lap: even before a book’s release to the public, an author should have a strong marketing plan formulated that can be implemented upon the completion of the book.

It is entirely up to the author to make sure the world knows their work exists by creating the publicity themselves, or purchasing the LifeVest Professional Marketing Plan. Though many publishers make it sound like they will handle the marketing and advertising, beware, as this is not generally the case. In many cases, their “promotion” consists of only listing a book with a wholesale distributor and/or placing a book in their database.
